Turkey Traders

Pavo, Peace Eagle, Guinea Fowl, the turkey, Genus Meleagris, a colorful bird with a colorful history. In the 1540’s merchants who brought birds, the Guinea Fowl, from Madagascar through the country of Turkey, earned the nickname of Turkey Traders (after the country). The nickname migrated to the bird which people began to call Turkey Fowl. When american settlers saw their first true turkeys, a native North American bird that resembled the Guinea Fowl, they dubbed it Turkey Fowl, after it’s look-alike.

Benny Who?

Pacific Printing Industries, PPI, collects the beautifully printed pieces produced in the Pacific Northwest each year. Judges then review the quality and process of each piece. They choose the best in quality for several different categories. Those that win the local Print Rocks contest, go on to an international contest, the Premier Awards, presented by PIA, Print Industries of America. The best of the best are judged. A “Benny” is the print industry’s version of an Oscar award.

Content management is a capacious buzzword. It is somewhat ironic, considering ours is an age of “bumper sticker” communication. Quick one-liners sound good but are not exactly content heavy. We love sound bites. It’s easy, it’s fast and we don’t have to give it our full attention. Our slogan, for example, Think Green, is obviously not asking you to visualize in shades of green. Yet, it does not begin to explain to you how we are more sustainable. Nevertheless, our hope is that it reminds you that sustainability is an important issue and that we have gone to great lengths to operate as an environmentally sound business.

On the edge of the Pearl district a group of cinematographers filmed the intro of MTV’s Real World. The print world had a REAL interesting year. What was real about it?

A year companies used green washing methods, such as “save paper, don’t print”, suggesting computers were more environmentally friendly than paper…not true!
