Premier Press reduces trash collection by over 30%!

Many wonder what happens to all the material in a print shop. It wasn’t that long ago that people simply threw everything into the trashcan. It was easier and cheaper than separating all the various materials and paying someone to take it away.
Thankfully, those days are a part of the past. With the rising costs to have trash hauled away, and consequently the rising value of recycled materials, it makes much more sense to recycle. Not to mention the environmental aspects.
Today, we look at materials and ask important questions:

  • Do we need to order that much material to produce the product needed?
  • What can we do with the scrap or leftover material?
  • Can we donate the material?
  • Where can it be recycled?

Technology has helped us reduce make ready by up to 35%!

This year alone, Premier Press has donated over 450 lbs. of stock to ScrapPDX, whose mission is to inspire creative reuse and environmentally sustainable behavior by providing educational programs and affordable materials to the community.
Additionally, we have made strong efforts at recycling the materials we use:

  • Paper 812,397 lbs.
  • Corrugated 65,030 lbs.
  • Plastics 14,560 lbs.
  • Wood 4,710 lbs.

We have developed further solutions to reducing our footprint, for example, we’ve recently identified a vendor to recycle and or reuse our plastic and metal drums, saving more valuable space in our trash containers.
Because of our dedication to a healthy planet, the Premier Press Team has reduced our total trash collection by over 30% this year! And we strongly believe we can reduce this further in the coming months.

We are closed today due to unsafe road conditions.
