The Big Float—don’t miss it

Check it out—truly PDX—The Big float is an event that celebrates the improved water quality of the Willamette River. It is one more great summer event on the Portland waterfront. You can drift to bands playing from a floating barge with handcrafted beers pouring. What could be more magical? While at it, check out our 40-foot Banner of a high res image shot by GigaPan of PDX winning world float record. Yes, Portland floats.

This event will be a blast whether listening to music while river floating in the Willamette next to Waterfront Park, or if you prefer to keep dry, watching and partaking in a beer or two from the shore. The float starts at noon, the bands at 12:15. Registration starts at 9AM or register online.

Sneak Preview the Waterfront Blues Festival Poster 2013

PDX Rocks—or rather Portland sings the Blues! July 4, 5, 6 & 7, Portland’s own Waterfront Blues Festival is recognized as the nation’s greatest blues festival. In 2011 London based, Essentials Travel Magazine, listed the Waterfront Blues Festival in the top 10 outdoor festivals in the US. Outside Magazine also listed the festival in the top 10. Winner of Keeping the Blues Alive award from the International Blues Foundation. Voted by Oregon Festival & Event Assoc. best Oregon festival. Hot off the press is the 2013 Blues Festival Poster. Introduce artist, Gary Houston, Voodoo Catbox. Another Portland treasure. Turkey Traders

Pavo, Peace Eagle, Guinea Fowl, the turkey, Genus Meleagris, a colorful bird with a colorful history. In the 1540’s merchants who brought birds, the Guinea Fowl, from Madagascar through the country of Turkey, earned the nickname of Turkey Traders (after the country). The nickname migrated to the bird which people began to call Turkey Fowl. When american settlers saw their first true turkeys, a native North American bird that resembled the Guinea Fowl, they dubbed it Turkey Fowl, after it’s look-alike.
