Apeel Sciences wants to keep your fruits and vegetables fresher longer, so there’s less waste and more time to enjoy. How is this possible? By using technology that nature itself provides: the peels of the produce itself. Apeel is a plant-derived coating that is utilized by food growers, suppliers, and retailers that keeps the produce fresh. It is protection on the surface of the produce that helps it retain moisture and reduce oxygen. In other words, produce stays “apeeling” for the consumer longer.
At Premier Press, we not only understand the vision and need for sustainability, we live it too. That’s why this project was a perfect fit, and a fun one to be a part of. We made sure that all materials used were 100% recyclable and sustainable; from the packaging and the tote bag inside, all the way to the delicious apples that were sent along as samples to show off the science of Apeel.
Serra, Purveyor of Quality Drugs, has grown a strong
following in their home base of Portland, Oregon; elevating the cannabis shopping
experience to sophisticated new heights.
This year they were ready to enter the California market and wanted to seed their products and introduce their unique brand identity to dispensary owners across the state. Their idea was to send more than just a sample kit; it needed to be a playful, exciting, interactive experience. So they invited Premier Press to collaborate, and we put our heads together.
Serra offers a wide variety of different vehicles to deliver their THC, CBD, and combination products: flower, pre-rolls, vaporizers, gumdrops, chocolate bars, and caramels. Each product is identified with an icon representing the “feeling” it will deliver to the customer: happiness, relaxation, energy, creativity, focus, and relief.
And then there’s the feeling of excitement that comes with simply opening the box. At first, it seems to be an understated but elegant white package. It has a premium soft-touch surface and Serra’s logo printed in their custom PMS brand color, with smooth magnet closures. But it opens to reveal subtle hidden doors and drawers that reveal other doors and drawers, each with a surprise inside.
For some of the products, there was no existing photography,
so our in-house studio worked with Serra’s creative team to create new images.
We’re especially proud of our gumdrop shots; they look as if you could pick
them right off the box and pop them in your mouth.
Designing and engineering the many facets of the kit was a
challenge we welcomed, and it was a pleasure to work so closely with Serra.
California’s cannabis dispensary owners are in for a treat.
And so are their customers-to-be.
Top media agencies and celebrities received a big (as in large and heavy) surprise for the NBA All-Star Weekend in Chicago this year: a pair of Jordan III shoes, an Xbox console, and two controllers – all in a dramatic presentation box created by Premier Press and Tripleclix.
Premier was tasked to create two different tier
kits to show off the collaboration between Jordan and Xbox.
One was a fire-red turned-edge box with an Xbox
logo on one side of the lid, and the Jordan logo on the other side. The lid has
a subtle red-on-red iconic elephant print, and opens along diagonal-cut flaps
to reveal the shoes, console, and Jordan-branded controllers nestled into a
black foam interior.
Impressive in its own right. But wait until you
hear about the Tier One celebrity kit.
The Tier One box is a custom red and black
logo-imprinted wooden cube with a locking carrying handle on the top. When the
handle is unlocked, the entire box lifts off to reveal a custom-constructed
wooden fixture that holds the items. The console is tucked vertically inside a
tower, with woven straps to pull it out. And on each side of the tower, one
shoe and one console is held on with Velcro straps.
As always, it was an exciting challenge for our
design and engineering teams, and an honor to have our work play a part in this
important annual NBA event.
“Plum Twist.” Sounds delicious, doesn’t it? It was Red Bull’s special edition energy drink for the winter of 2019. They asked Premier Press to make it look as special as it tasted, with a “turnkey tool for the Red Bull brand and sales team to leverage.” We created a holiday gift package with a dramatic reveal.
The box is dressed up like a Christmas present, with snowy white paper and a printed foil bow. And like every good gift, what’s inside is a wonderful surprise. When you lift the outer box, the sides of the inner box fall open and the Red Bull can is illuminated from below with a LED light.
A magnet mechanism activates the light when the box opens,
and turns it off when the box is closed. Impressive to be sure, but that wasn’t
the only technical issue we had to solve.
We also had to match the unique plum color and metallic look
for the sides of the inner box. Our
solution was to create a custom color, printed with a four-color process on top
of a silver laminate paper.
In order not to reveal the metallic plum color until the box
was opened, we covered the box with an opaque soft-touch 95-pound Plike white
text paper. And the metallic bow is dye-cut, foil-stamped, and added onto the

“Earn Your Spotlight” is an ongoing and overarching adidas campaign highlighting their line of training apparel exclusively offered at Dick’s Sporting Goods (DSG). It’s an agile and versatile campaign, with ever-changing content, specific to featured athletes and apparel items. The key was to create an “evergreen” influencer kit that could accommodate a high level of customization.
Our game plan was this: to create a form factor that was adaptable for various products, allowed for custom video content for different recipients, and would deliver long-lasting value for our clients.
We achieved it by creating a locker-room experience in a box.
It’s a tapered carrying case with yellow tape graphics around the perimeter,
and a black matte surface designed to look like a chalkboard.
Open the hinged door and a dynamic video featuring pro athletes in
high-performance training mode begins to play, getting you amped and ready to
work. Recipient-specific base layer apparel and footwear are housed behind hinged

This time of year is about celebration and giving. For the ninth
year in a row, we’ve put those sentiments on paper: with a set of four original
wrapping paper designs. It’s a fun way to celebrate and promote our local
design community by featuring their work, and to thank our friends and
customers for a great year.
This year’s papers are as follows, including printing specs for you technical folks:
“Red Checkered” has a whimsical, retro
feel. It’s a two-sided gold wrap, created by the Strum brand agency with
illustration by Willy Eddy. It’s printed using a four-color process, with
a dull varnish and a UV coating.
“Elegant Joy” is just what the name
implies. The bird and flower motif comes from E. Manwaring Design. It’s also a two-sided
gold wrap, with metallic gold, metallic green, and a special cream mix plus a
spot gloss varnish.
Hovercraft Studio gave us a bold,
dynamic design that uses designed PMS Black
with 2 hits of pretty-peachy-pink PMS 805, and a soft-touch aqueous finish.
And “Color Blocks” was contributed by our own designers at Premier Press Creative. It has both a dull and gloss coating for a dramatic, dimensional effect.
All designs were printed on 70-pound
Titan gloss paper, using our Komori 8-color press, in our 100% wind-powered
facility, certified by the SGP (Sustainable Green Printing Partnership).
Stop by our lobby and pick up a roll while they last! Enjoy!
