Beavers Score Touchdown with New Stadium Graphics

Whether you bleed orange and black or rep a different set of college football colors there is something every football fan or enthusiast can agree on – there’s nothing better than when those stadium lights hit the field.

Going into their 2021 football season, Oregon State University wanted to elevate their fan experience and give students, alumni, players, staff and TV viewers all something they could collectively enjoy once those stadium lights hit.

The best part? Premier Press was the one who helped them do it.

Scoring points before the season opener

Oregon State University approached Premier looking to create a seamless gameday experience that their fans could enjoy regardless of whether they viewed the game from in the stadium or on the couch.

Having been five years since the last stadium refresh, it made sense to start with the highest viewed and trafficked areas of the stadium including the:

  • Elevator doors and wall graphics on all four levels of the stadium
  • Terrace club sign
  • Field level wall graphic

Consulting the playbook

It was important to Premier that the graphics help deliver a seamless game day experience and we knew to do that, a site survey was vital to the success of the project.

This might, on the surface, seem obsessive but this site survey provided us with some critical information to ensure the printed graphics:

  • Were easily readable from the opposite side
  • Weren’t blocked by game day officials, crew or permanent fixtures
  • Could be installed without interrupting the continuation of a graphical element
  • Were in a prime position to act as a backdrop for those viewing the game from home
  • Created an experience on every level of the stadium
  • Matched the off-brand orange used on the field

With a site visit completed, we were able to confidently print and install the graphics.

The winning play

To accommodate the multiple obstructions and access points, the field graphic was printed in sections on a heavy-weight vinyl with reinforced grommets across the top, bottom, and sides for easy attachment.

Although in a covered area, the elevator door and wall graphics still see exposure to the elements so it was important that be taken into consideration when selecting the print materials. We chose to print on 3M IJ180C, a self-adhesive, and a matte laminate finish to protect the graphic from fading.

Knowing that the outdoor terrace graphic had, in the past, faded in the sun so severely that the signature Beaver orange faded to pink, it was critical that we choose materials that were going to last. We printed the graphic on a UV press so that it would have UV ink and finished it off with a matte laminate to further protect it from fading.

Have a project that you feel is long overdue for a refresh? Have a big project that needs large-scale printing?
