Marvel at This Marvel Poster

Local Portlander’s may be familiar with Dan Stiles design, illustration, gig poster, and animation work but his latest project has taken on international recognition.

Usually known for his capturing screen-printed work, Dan Stiles was hired by Marvel to create posters promoting Marvel Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N., an interactive and educational exhibit bringing visitors into the world of The Avengers. These posters would then be sold at Marvel Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N. exhibitions and online.

Being that this project was set to be a large format printing run, Dan elicited the help of Premier Press to bring his art to life.

For the majority of Dan’s work, screen-printing methods are used but given the number of vivid colors used in the Marvel poster design, the tight turn-around, and the budget involved we opted to utilize our Komori IS29 printer.

Most digital printing presses can only make global color moves but our Komori IS29 printer is a fan-favorite machine for all artists because of its ability to make individual or segmented color moves.

We utilized a 4-color process but, specific to this project, used 14 separated or segmented colors so each color could be moved individually.

What does this mean? It means this 18 x 24, limited edition poster was able to be printed with higher detail and resolution. Separating art segments allowed us to push extended color gamut’s across the image in opposite directions to really enhance the artwork.

Looking to print your artwork but need a printer with extended color gamut capabilities and shorter runs? Let’s talk.
